Before doors open: scan one pass a few minutes early. The very first scan of the night wakes the server and can take several seconds; every scan after it is fast. Put the door on a wired connection or its own hotspot rather than the venue's guest Wi-Fi — every scan is checked with the server, so the door is only as reliable as that connection.
